Frequently Asked Questions

PLA (polylactic acid) is a plant-based material made from renewable resources like corn or sugarcane. We combine 90% PLA with 10% bamboo fibre, a fast-growing natural material that adds strength and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. The result is durable, lightweight dinnerware made primarily from plants.
-
No — our dinnerware is 100% plastic-free and made from renewable plant-based materials rather than petroleum. It’s designed as a lower-impact alternative to traditional plastic products.
-
Unlike conventional plastics made from fossil fuels, PLA comes from renewable crops that can be regrown year after year. Blending it with bamboo fibre further reduces environmental impact while creating a strong, practical material for everyday use.
-
It’s dishwasher safe (top rack recommended) and perfect for everyday meals. We recommend avoiding the microwave and very high heat, as PLA is a plant-based material and performs best under normal serving conditions.
We’ve tested our dinnerware for short microwave reheats (up to 1 minute on low power), and it performed well. However, longer heating times or higher temperatures may cause the material to warp or develop cracks over time, so gentle reheating is recommended. If you are a heavy microwave user then we recommend our wheat straw dinnerware which can handle the heat a lot better. There are also healthier options to heat up food such as heating in a pan with boiling water over a wire rack to preserve the nurtients in your food.
-
Not really - they’re very durable, but sharp knives or heavy pressure can cause light scratches. We recommend cutting meats and tougher foods on a chopping board, and using gentler knives when cutting on the plates to help keep them looking their best.
-
Because our dinnerware is made from plant-based materials (PLA and bamboo fibre), it can be more prone to staining from strongly coloured foods like pasta sauce, curry, beetroot, - especially if food is left sitting for long periods.
The good news? Most everyday marks wash away easily with a normal dishwasher cycle or warm, soapy water. To help keep your pieces looking their best, we recommend rinsing soon after use and avoiding long soaks with deeply pigmented foods. We have tested our dinnerware with pasta sauce and berries and have not had a problem it all washed off without any marks.
Because life is messy and if you do get odd marks on them then using bicarbonate of soda and water will get the stains off, most of the time.A little love goes a long way — and any tiny signs of use are just proof of many happy meals shared 💛

-
Yes — it’s 100% compostable in commercial composting facilities. Because it’s designed to be durable, it needs the high heat of an industrial composting system to properly break down. It won’t compost effectively in a home compost bin.

Choosing PLA and bamboo fibre helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels while still giving you long-lasting, practical dinnerware for your family. It’s a small switch that supports a more sustainable future.
